New Building Proposed at Hudson and Charles Street

538-544 Hudson Street

Plans have been filed for a new 7-story mixed-use building at 538-544 Hudson Street (at Charles Street) which would contain 26 apartment units. The site has been empty for years, and contains an old gas station.

However, because the site is located in the Greenwich Village Historic District, any proposed changes must go through a public hearing process at both the Community Board and the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC), and would require the approval of the LPC. No hearings have yet been scheduled, but when they are, GVSHP will post that information and the proposed designs for the new building on our Landmarks Applications Webpage, and include notice of this and all other new landmarks applications in our neighborhoods in our e-newsletter. If you wish to receive additional specific notifications about this application, please email sapmann@gvshp.org.

Every day, GVSHP monitors all 6,500 building lots in our neighborhoods for any new demolition, new construction, or major alteration permit applications. GVSHP responds to all applications we believe are harmful or inappropriate, and tracks and notifies the public about all major applications within landmarked areas, so the public can participate in the public hearing and approval process if they wish.
