City Continues to Dodge Far West Village Landmark Commitment

370 West 11th StreetThe city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) is refusing to honor its 2005 commitment to consider three remaining sites in the Far West Village for landmark designation.  One, an 1839 house at 370 West 11th Street, is currently threatened with severe alteration.  In response to GVSHP’s call to the LPC to honor its 2005 commitment to landmark this site, the LPC has responded by saying that it does not believe that the house is worthy of landmark designation, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THE COMMISSION ITSELF WHICH IDENTIFIED THE HOUSE AND PUBLICLY PROMISED TO PURSUE LANDMARK DESIGNATION.

GVSHP has asked City Council Speaker Quinn, State Senator Duane, and Assemblymember Glick, all of whom represent the area and to whom the same promise was made by the LPC in 2005, to call upon the City to keep this promise and landmark 370 West 11th Street before it is too late.  So far Senator Duane has written to the City, for which we thank him.
