City Council NYU Vote Expected Tuesday 7/17 — CALL THE COUNCIL!
We’re down to the wire — the City Council’s Land Use Committee is expected to vote on NYU’s massive proposed Village expansion plan TOMORROW, July 17th!
While the full City Council likely won’t vote until July 25th, tomorrow’s vote IS KEY in determining what the entire City Council will do — and it is the City Council which ultimately decides whether or not the NYU plan is approved.
That’s why it’s critical that you call members of the Council’s Land Use Committee today, before the vote, URGING THEM TO VOTE ‘NO.’
We've heard from many Councilmembers how effective our phone campaign was before the hearing, NOW WE HAVE TO HIT THEM AGAIN BEFORE THEY VOTE.
HOW TO HELP:
- Call Speaker Quinn, Councilmember Chin, and every member of the City Council Land Use Committee TODAY and urge them to VOTE 'NO' on the NYU expansion plan -- CLICK HERE or see below for phone numbers and script.
- Forward this to friends, family, and neighbors and ask them to call as well!
You can find out more about the NYU plan and the fight to stop it HERE, and support this and other GVSHP preservation efforts HERE.
PLEASE CALL THE FOLLOWING CITY COUNCILMEMBERS
BEFORE TUESDAY, JULY 17.
If one of them is your City Councilmember, please identify yourself as their constituent — if you are not sure who your Councilmember is, click HERE.
SAMPLE SCRIPT: “My name is _________ and I am calling because I am strongly opposed to the NYU expansion plan the City Council will be voting on. Who should I speak to about this?
(if any office says the Councilmember will vote ‘NO,’ thank them for his/her support, and call the next one)
I strongly urge the Councilmember to vote ‘NO’ on the NYU plan and send it back to the drawing board (if this is your Councilmember, say so here). I am opposed to any public park space being sold off to NYU. I am opposed to any upzoning of the neighborhood to allow additional development by NYU where it does not belong. I am opposed to breaking any urban renewal agreements that govern how the land NYU now owns can be used. NYU’s neighbors, its faculty, and its staff are all united in opposing this plan. NYU has not listened to any of us, has not demonstrated the need for locating these facilities here, and has not explored alternatives. The only right thing for the Council to do is vote the NYU plan down.”
