Final Reminder: Come to the NYU Court Date tomorrow at 10:30 am!

One year ago today, the City Council’s Land Use Committee voted to approve a deal brokered by City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and City Council Member Margaret Chin to allow NYU’s massive 20-year expansion plan.

Following on the heels of approvals by Borough President Stringer and the City Planning Commission, this was the final public approval allowing NYU to proceed with a two million square foot expansion that will destroy public greenspace, overturn neighborhood zoning protections and open space preservation requirements, and abrogate long-standing agreements under which NYU was granted public land decades ago. It will also result in the tremendously damaging overdevelopment of our neighborhood.

That is unless we can convince a judge to overturn these wrongheaded, inappropriately-granted approvals.  GVSHP, NYU faculty, and a broad range of neighborhood and preservation groups and individuals are suing to overturn these approvals, and tomorrow’s hearing will be a key milestone in that process.  WE NEED YOU THERE TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!

HOW TO HELP:

  • Join us tomorrow at 111 Centre Street (btw. White and Leonard Streets), rm. 574. Bring photo ID and leave time to go through security. The hearing is supposed to begin at 10:30 am.

This may be your last chance to show your support before the judge – DON’T MISS IT!

We hope to see you tomorrow.
