NYU Expansion Plan Town Hall Moved Up to January 4th; Sign the On-line Petition against the plan now!

Footer

At the heart of NYU’s massive proposed expansion plan are zoning changes to allow adding 2.5 mil. Sq. ft. of space, the equivalent of the Empire State Building, south of Washington Square Park.

Due to the Community Board hearing schedule, the Town Hall meeting on the expansion plan announced last week has been moved up to January 4th (time and location TBA) so that it will precede all public hearings on the plan. GVSHP, the Community Action Alliance on NYU 2031, Greenwich Village Block Associations, and more than a dozen community groups from the West Village, East Village, South Village, Union Square, and Chelsea will be co-sponsoring the meeting. Community Board #2, which has not yet voted on the plan, will be also be there to explain its public hearing schedule and process, and has also agreed to put the meeting on its calendar and to co-sponsor it.

FooterHow can you help fight the NYU plan between now and then?  Sign and share the on-line petition GVSHP has posted urging elected and appointed officials who will vote on the NYU plan NOT to approve it.  NYU's massive 20 year expansion plan would strip neighborhood zoning protections, undo open space preservation requirements, lift urban renewal deed restrictions, and give away public land currently being used as park space.  Sign the petition  HERE, and please spread the word!
