Rally and testify against NYU’s 400 ft. tall tower plan November 7th and 8th

NYU’s massive expansion plan now starting the approval process with their landmarks application for a 400 ft. tall tower — the tallest EVER in the Village — on Bleecker Street in the I.M. Pei-designed Silver Towers complex.

  • GVSHP and allied community groups in the Community Alliance on NYU 2031 (CAAN2031) will be holding a rally and press conference on Sunday, November 7th at 2pm to show our opposition to NYU’s landmark-busting plans for the Village’s tallest tower— a combination hotel and residence — and their threatened alternative of building on the adjacent supermarket site. We will call on NYU and city officials who must approve their plans to instead consider the Financial District and other locations for their expansion, where it would be contextual and welcome. Join us with friends, neighbors, and signs on NYU’s proposed development site, south side of Bleecker Street east of LaGuardia Place.  Download the flyer HERE.

  • NYU’s 400 ft. tall tower plan comes before Community Board #2’s Landmarks Committee for a public hearing and vote on Monday, November 8th at 6:30 pm (location TBA). The public will get to speak in response to NYU’s application, and tell the Community Board how they think they should vote on this critical application — PLEASE COME.

  • GVSHP and allied community groups in CAAN2031 also recently wrote to public officials who must approve NYU’s plans about why the enormous proposed developments on Bleecker Street should not be approved, and why the Financial District is a vastly preferable option — read it HERE

Please also read recent coverage of the response to NYU’s plans in The Villager, The NY Times’ East Village Local Blog, Real Estate Weekly, and Washington Square News. You might also be interested in a recent Op-Ed I wrote regarding the NYU 2031 20-year expansion plan HERE.
