Revised Rudin St. Vincent’s Plan To Be Presented Tomorrow

Following last month’s review by the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) of the Rudin designs for renovation of four St. Vincent’s buildings and demolition and replacement of four others east of 7th Avenue, the developer is expected to return to the LPC tomorrow with revised designs. The LPC had asked Rudin to make changes to the renovation plans for the four buildings to be preserved, to lower the height of the proposed new 7th Avenue building, and to redesign the proposed new townhouses on 11th Street to replace the Cronin building. GVSHP had called for similar changes, but had also called for retention of the Reiss building on 12th Street, which Rudin has proposed to demolish and replace with LPC approval.

The presentation of revised plans and response by LPC is scheduled to run from 9:30 to 11:30 am tomorrow, June 9, at the LPC hearing room, One Centre Street (at Chambers), 9th floor. The public will be allowed to observe but not to comment. It is unclear whether or not the LPC will vote on the revised plans tomorrow; at their last meeting, the LPC did vote to approve St. Vincent’s hardship claim for demolition of the O’Toole building and for their proposed new 286 ft. tall hospital. Any plan approved by the LPC would still require approval of the City Council and City Planning Commission, while the LPC’s hardship finding is facing a legal challenge.
