No 'Tech Hub' Without Zoning Protections - Update
GVSHP continues the fight for much-needed zoning protections for the area between 3rd and 5th Avenues, Union Square and Astor Place, where insufficient zoning is allowing 300 ft. tall towers and hotels to replace permanent housing. We are seeking to ensure that Mayor de Blasio’s plans for a Tech Hub on 14th Street, which would accelerate development pressure in the area, is not approved UNLESS accompanied by these zoning protections.
GVSHP members have sent thousands of letters to the Mayor urging him to act. The Villager recently editorialized strongly in favor of zoning protections for this area as a requirement for the Tech Hub moving forward, and urged both Mayor de Blasio and Borough President Brewer to adopt this position. State Senator Liz Krueger has joined Councilmember Rosie Mendez in saying that any Tech Hub approval must be conditioned upon zoning protections for this area, and affordable housing groups have also joined in the call for such protections and such a linkage.
We expect more public hearings on the matter to be scheduled in the coming weeks. To help now, please:
