Some quick reminders on how you can help protect the University Place, Broadway, 3rd and 4th Avenue corridors from overdevelopment, esp. in light of the Mayor’s 14th Street ‘Tech Hub’ plan:

  • Please come to the Mayor’s Town Hall tonight at 6:30pm at University Settlement at Houston Street, 273 Bowery – you must RSVP to townhallrsvp@cityhall.nyc.gov or212-748-0281.  Doors open at 5:30pm so we recommend you arrive early to guarantee a seat.  We will have signs for you to hold, and we urge you to ask the Mayor “Why are you opposing zoning protections proposed by the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation and Rosie Mendez for University Place, Broadway, 3rd and 4th Avenues that would stop oversized development, protect the residential character of that area, and protect and create affordable housing?”
  • Please come to Community Board #3’s full board meeting next Tuesday at 6:30pm at PS 20, 166 Essex Street (E. Houston/Stanton).  We will have a limited number of speakers urging Community Board #3 to support our call for zoning protections for 3rd and 4th Avenues (CB 3 only covers east of 4th Avenue), and need a large crowd to hold up signs.  Please email hbubbins@gvshp.org if you can attend – it will take less than an hour but make a BIG DIFFERENCE!

  • IF YOU LIVE IN COMMUNITY BOARD #3 (east of 4th Avenue, south of 14th Street), please sign the petition calling upon the board to hold a hearing and support our call for zoning protections for 3rd and 4th Avenues in light of the proposed Tech Hub on 14th Street – sign HERE.  If you have already signed, please ask friends and neighbors IF THEY LIVE IN COMMUNITY BOARD #3 to also sign.

As always, the latest information on this effort can be found at vparchive.gvshp.org/savemyneighborhood and you can send letters to the Mayor at vparchive.gvshp.org/mayor and to elected officials at vparchive.gvshp.org/elected -- and ask friends and neighbors to do the same.
