PLANS FOR TWO OVERSIZED DEVELOPMENTS
ON JANE STREET,
IN THE HEART OF THE GREENWICH VILLAGE HISTORIC DISTRICT
SCHEDULED FOR LANDMARKS HEARINGS TUESDAY
Help Protect Our Historic District!

***
Please Note:
The application at 85-89 Jane Street has been laid over and therefore will not be heard Tuesday, June 21, 2016 as scheduled. We will share information as soon as it's been re-scheduled, which may be as soon as June 28th or July 12th.

The hearing for 11 Jane will now begin at 2:00 p.m.

Two oversized, inappropriate developments are proposed in the heart of the Greenwich Village Historic District at 11 and 85-89 Jane Streets. If approved, these developments will be devastating blows to the preservation protections we have long fought for and secured for our neighborhood.

At 11 Jane Street (Greenwich Avenue/Hudson Street), a two-story parking garage would be replaced by a 95 ft. tall apartment building with a rectangular grid façade (image above, full proposal here; more info here/here). Read the letter from several prominent neighbors opposing the plan.

At 85-89 Jane Street (Greenwich Street/Washington Street), a one-story and a two-story commercial building would have significant additions constructed, including 80 to 90 ft. tall glass and concrete towers (image above, full proposal here; more info here/here).

These proposals are totally inappropriate for these residential streets in the middle of a historic district. We need to tell the Landmarks Preservation Commission, and the Mayor who appoints them, TO SEND THESE DESIGNS BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD!

The 11 Jane Street proposal is scheduled to be heard on Tuesday, June 21 – please testify at the hearing, send letters, or both! *Please note that the hearing for 85-89 Jane Street has been postponed*

HOW TO HELP:

  • Send letters to the Landmarks Preservation Commission and the Mayor opposing the plans for 11 Jane Street and 85-89 Jane Street (click each to send). Tell them these plans are not appropriate for these sites, and to protect and respect our historic district!
  • Come to the Landmarks Preservation Commission public hearing and testify against the proposals. The hearing for 11 Jane Street is at 2:00. Hearings take place at the Municipal Building, One Centre Street, 9th floor. Bring your photo ID.

LPC recommends that you arrive approximately 60 minutes prior to the scheduled meeting time to account for security and possible scheduling changes. Speaker sign-in sheets are available outside the hearing room if you would like to speak. Once you fill out this sheet, hand it to an LPC staff member sitting at the commissioner’s table in the hearing room. Testimony is limited to 3 minutes, but written submissions can be longer. Use the letters for 11 Jane Street and 85-89 Jane Street as sample testimony.
