Scaled-Down Puck Building Additions Approved by Landmarks
On December 20th the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) approved a dramatically scaled-down version of planned rooftop additions to the landmarked Puck Building on East Houston and Lafayette Streets. This was the fifth version of a plan by developer Jared Kushner to add several floors to the rooftop of the iconic structure. GVSHP (among many others) had opposed the original plans for their visibility and overwhelming visual impact upon the building.
The version approved by the LPC was greatly reduced in size and height, the materials were changed to better fit the building, and elements of the original rooftop will be restored, which will also minimize the visibility of the planned additions.
Read coverage in the New York Times, Crain’s, The Real Deal, and the East Village Local/NY Times. See images of the building and the various versions of the proposed additions on GVSHP’s Landmarks Application Webpage HERE.
