Murray’s Cheese is a quintessential South Village business – independently-owned, food-related, and deeply connected to the rich immigrant and social history of this neighborhood. Proprietor Rob Kaufelt is also a quintessential South Villager, who not only owns a business but has lived in the neighborhood for years.
Rob knows that the South Village’s history, architecture, and unique sense of place are a big part of what makes businesspeople like him locate there, and New Yorkers like him want to live there. But he also knows that unique neighborhood character is being destroyed by unchecked development, and that only the landmark designation the City promised years ago will save the South Village.
