Next St. Vincent’s/Rudin Landmarks Hearing March 10
The Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) will be holding its next public meeting on the plans by St. Vincent’s Hospital and developers Rudin Management on Tuesday, March 10 at 9 A.M. at the NYU Kimmel Center, 60 Washington Square South, rm. 401. While the public will not be allowed to testify, the LPC is expected to discuss the hospital’s plans for a 299 ft. tall new building on the site of the O’Toole Building on the west side of 7th Avenue, and Rudin Managements plans to replace four the current hospital and renovate four others on the east side of the avenue for condominiums. At its last public meeting on this matter the LPC appeared deeply divided over the issue, and with many commissioners expressing serious reservations about many aspects of the current plan.
While the LPC has approved the hospital’s hardship application to demolish the O’Toole Building (though that faces a likely legal challenge), they have not yet approved the proposed replacement building or the Rudin developments. Any plans approved by the LPC would then require zoning changes which would also require the approval of the City Council and the City Planning Commission.
