Next LPC public meeting on St. Vincent’s application on December 16th

The next meeting of the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) to discuss the application by St. Vincent’s Hospital will be Tuesday, December 16th at 9 A.M., and will be held at NYU’s Kimmel Student Center, 60 Washington Square South (at LaGuardia Place), in room 401 (see here). This is the first meeting of the Commission regarding the St. Vincent’s application since the Commission narrowly voted 6 to 4 to find that St. Vincent’s proved a hardship which would allow for the demolition of the O’Toole Building.

Because this is a public meeting, not a public hearing, the public can listen to the discussion but will not have the opportunity to comment.

It appears the LPC will be discussing the proposed replacement hospital building for the O’Toole site (see here for images and information), as well as the Triangle site. While the Commission voted to approve the hardship application which allows demolition of the O’Toole building, approval is still required by the LPC for the replacement hospital building as well as the Rudin plan for the East Campus. Also, any plans approved by the LPC will require substantial zoning changes which must then be approved by the City Planning Commission and the City Council, and the hardship finding may face a legal challenge.
