Rally and Press Conference Calling on BP Stringer to Vote 'NO' on the NYU Expansion Plan, 3/22 at Noon
 PLEASE JOIN GVSHP, COMMUNITY AND PRESERVATION GROUPS, NYU FACULTY, STUDENTS, AND TENANTS FOR A RALLY AND PRESS CONFERENCE NEXT THURSDAY, MARCH 22 AT NOON ON THE STEPS OF CITY HALL. WE WILL CALL UPON BOROUGH PRESIDENT STRINGER TO HOLD A PUBLIC HEARING AND VOTE ‘NO’ ON NYU’S MASSIVE PROPOSED VILLAGE EXPANSION PLAN, AND DELIVER THOUSANDS OF PETITION SIGNATURES AGAINST THE PLAN.
The Borough President has until April 11 to issue his recommendation regarding NYU’s massive proposal for zoning changes, acquisition of public land, removal of open-space preservation requirements, and overturning of urban renewal deed restrictions to allow the construction of 2.5 million square feet of space – the equivalent of the Empire State Building – on the blocks south of Washington Square. While the Borough President’s recommendation is only advisory, it can have an important impact upon the approval process which will follow, in which the City Planning Commission and the City Council will determine if the plan goes ahead.
GVSHP and fellow community groups, NYU faculty, and NYU students have urged the Borough President to hold a public hearing before making his decision, and to recommend disapproval of the plan. Approval of the plan in whole or in part would have disastrous consequences for the neighborhood, and we believe that better alternatives for the neighborhood, for the city, and even for the university should be considered.

- Come to the Rally next Thursday, March 22nd at noon on the steps of City Hall (bring photo ID and arrive a few minutes early to go through security – enter at Broadway and Murray Street or Centre Street and Park Row)
